Another Day, Another Dollar Empty

Feliks awoke to Pony meowing and pawing at his bedroom door. He sighed and rolled out of bed, his pink pajama top riding up as he yawned and stretched. He walked over and let the affectionate animal in. Pony arched up and nuzzled Feliks’ ankle before walking past the effeminate man and hopping onto the lavender bed to take a nap. “Aw, Pony, why do you have to be such a lazy kitty?” He pouted, running a hand through his bed head.

Even though he didn’t plan on going out, Feliks still spent a meticulous hour showering, doing his hair and then choosing an outfit. When he finished, he was pleased with results. He had brushed his bangs to the side and was wearing a red blouse with white skinny jeans and black ballet flats. This created an androgynous effect that made it nearly impossible to tell if he was male or female. He winked flirtatiously at himself before skipping into the kitchen to eat a bowl of his favorite chocolate cereal.

Later, after watching some daytime television and chatting with some online friends, he checked his stock and did a little ‘wishful thinking.’ He had no qualms about using his ability for monetary gain; he was sure that there were others who did the same. He sighed, as much as he hated the outside world, almost to the point of agoraphobia, this was getting dull. He didn’t have friends, or relationships, or anything really except Pony. “Ugh, this sucks!” He exclaimed, throwing his empty coffee mug against the wall, where it shattered.

Today was not looking great.

Ever since Toris had been able to keep his powers under control he has found himself going out into the city and following random people. The qualities of these people do not tend to have any specific pattern; some being young, old, male, or female. He just follows whoever catches his eye. He has in resent time figured out that these people tend to have mutant tendencies or untapped power that he doesn't find out about until the Brotherhood officers are telling him to go recruit them. But he still doesn't have enough evidence to support that ever person his gut tells him to follow is that way, so leaves it to the high ups to make that call for him.

For this particular person he did not see them walking past him from the darkest subway shadows, or catch a glimpse of them from the reflection in a window late at night in the dimmest parts of town; instead he had been jumping from shadow to shadow between buildings and was stopped by two bright green eyes staring directly at him from a 5th floor. Not only was he taken aback by the color but the fact that someone had seen him long enough to be staring in the first place. It sparked a curiosity within him and he jumped to the ledge of the window in question to be met by a pair vibrant fluorescent cat eyes. Though Toris had never had an affinity towards animals, most being scared of him and taking motions to attack almost immediately, this cat didn't seem the slightest scared and almost even interested in him.

Toris would move himself closer to the window and peer into the space further beyond the cat. That was when he saw one of the most beautiful figures he had ever had the pleasure of laying sight upon. There clad in the most delicate shades of red and rose between silken sheets of violet the blonde had quickly become the new topic of his interest. Toris would find a comfortable shadow to lay into just outside the window until the cat got tired of him and left, to when he would move inside of the room and simply watch the other while they slept. To keep the cat from returning he would silently close the door to the room. He stayed this way until the sky began to lighten and threatened him away with its’ evil light. He would have to retaliate for now, but tomorrow night he would surly come again.
In his wake the exactly space in which he stood held the chilled energy which randomly would waft through the room for the day afterward.

The rest of his day wasn't much better. He spent the majority of it sulking and moping around. His eyes grew dull and he lacked the energy to get up off the couch for a couple of hours. His mood swings weren't usually so bad, but recently he'd just felt so alone.

After trying to eat his dinner but being too depressed to do so, Feliks went online for about an hour. As soon as it grew dark, Feliks went to lie down, angry and bored. He shivered as he walked past his balcony. He wasn't the slightest bit cold though. Something in the room just felt 'off'. He sighed, picking up Pony and looking around. "Huh..." he said softly, feeling as though he was being observed. He frowned and shook his head. "There can't be anyone in my room!" He protested to his cat, who simply meowed and went to stare at a shadowy corner.

He peeled off his shirt and pulled on a baby blue tank top with a rhinestone crown on the front. He then took off his white jeans, noticing that Pony was meowing happily at the shadowed corner. He strolled over to investigate. "Hello? Is anyone there?" He asked nervously. By this time it was entirely dark and he was becoming nervous.

He hid himself away the whole day, thinking of the blonde in the pretty pink night clothes. There was something about them that Toris couldn’t place his finger quite on that made him drawn to them. He had never been this obsessed with thinking about any other person he had ever followed, but the bright shades of blonde that was the others’ hair would whip across his minds’ eye every time he closed them.
Soon he found himself risking the light to be able to sneak into the apartment as soon as night fell over the city. He slipped in through the cracks of the window and hid in the darkest corner of the bedroom just waiting for the other to return. He was so sure of himself not to be caught that he let his guard down as the other walked into the room. He was instantly distracted by the cat who tried to paw at the shadowed edges of his hair on the ground. He pulled further into the corner just as he was spotted. Maybe if he lay still he would only be a shadow and nothing more to the boy. But something implored him to make a move forward; a shadow snaked its’ way across his carpet as if something was there casting a shadow but there was nothing. At first only a tendril but then fingers spread from its’ ends, it moved in such a way that an elbow could be seen it was extremely elongated to the point where it was almost non human. Then the top of a head appeared and bright white eyes stared directly into the other’s soul as he began to form a more sold 3d figure from the mass on the ground.

Feliks cowered as the figure appeared. "W-who's there?" He whispered, half terrified and half intrigued. He didn't believe in monsters anymore; he hadn't since he was small. The only thing he was really afraid of was other people. But, as scary as it's initial appearance was, it didn't give off an aura of evilness. If anything, it only seemed curious. Besides, Pony wasn't afraid of it, and Pony was very over-protective.

"You should just show me who you are. I'm not gonna call the cops or anything..." He promised sincerely. A thought occurred to him. "Are you like me? A mutant?" He wondered aloud. He tried to smile slightly when he thought he saw the figure nod. "I'm Feliks." He said softly. He was usually scared of strangers, but maybe this mutant needed his help. It never even occurred to him that the mutant might wish him harm.

He breathed a sigh of relief as the figure began to look humanoid. Then he gasped; this...whatever he was...was striking. He blushed faintly.

He we still reluctant to show his vulnerable human form to this person, and still he shroud himself with the shadow. This person who didn’t act the same way the most people did when he first interacted with them. Somewhere in the back of his mind this made him angry. He loved seeing the scared faces of people when they saw shadows with no being for form attached move. Loved seeing them saying to themselves that it was just the wind or just their mind playing tricks on them. He had known he had done a good job when they coward before him, still unsure if he we real or just in their mind. But still further it sparked curiosity in him as to why this person and their animal were just so sure that he wasn’t a threat to them. How does he not know that Toris might not throw his shadows down his throat and fill his lungs with the dark matter until he slowly died in the dark and cold? That’s what ran through Toris’ head right now as he approached this person. But something stopped him still from advancing any further. The kindness that this person clearly was emulating almost made Toris gag. He took a single step back, holding his ground now.
