Cyberpunk AU?

I recently started getting interested in cyberpunk so I was thinking maybe we could do an AU here! My ideas so far aren't entirely fleshed out but of course I'd love to hear anyone's ideas or opinions!

- An AU where the characters can be humans, cyborgs or androids
- Futuristic city setting and technology
- Maybe something along the lines of an oppressive ever-vigilant government ala 1984 and a resistance that's trying to restore some control to the people
- Something like microchip implants are used to keep an eye on everyone's activity
- Maybe the resistance has a way or removing or deactivating chips or reprogramming them to keep the government from spying on them

Hm...and here, I might sound very silly (or it could be the late hour talking XD). Just a few questions (as a interested member)...maybe you haven't thought this far/want other opinions. I'm mostly asking because I'm curious ^^

- The difference among the cyborgs/androids (humans are pretty obvious, methinks)
- Would you be needing the NPC character (Professor) to do something? (e.g. act as the 'oppressive government official in charge' or something like that)

I think that's it for now...I love the entire idea, honestly. I think it's really different from a lot of the things we've been doing so far ^_^

Well cyborgs are part-human part machine. So they could be someone who got into an accident and had cybernetic prosthetics made up for them, probably what's keeping them alive. Where as androids are fully machines and just made to look and function as people, but cannot get sick in the same way people do and instead of going to doctors for injuries or something, they can go to specialised mechanics and such.

Also in that way, Androids can be programmed to have loyalties to the government or other parties, though that programming can be rewritten, whereas cyborgs still have their human minds and only have to worry about the tracking microchips and such.

As for having the NPC character, there should probably be a head governmental figure that could make announcements or something along those lines, so that would be very useful in that respect.

I really like this idea as well. It almost makes me think of it being a Chobits sort of thing? Even though the plot doesn't have to go that direction at all XD

Haha chobits was a fun series. There could always be a special advanced and secret version of androids and have something with that?

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun! I'm already getting some ideas in my head. There are a lot of things we can play around with in terms of the government and relationships between humans, cyborgs, and androids (like discrimination, fear, control, ect.).

This idea sounds absolutely brilliant! XD Just wondering, what do you guys think about the idea of the city literally being a country sized "Mega City" that is walled off from the outside world? Everything outside the city's walls is nothing but empty nuclear wastelands.

My brain is already off in devious development/plot land (or is that crazytown? Sometimes my brain does not know the difference XD) and can't wait to be putting this idea forward as one of the many AUs you all have suggested ^_^

Ahh I really like those ideas! There's a lot we can do with the whole discrimination thing between the species, especially with the ethics about cyborgs since they are still part human and maybe a sort of... They don't belong to either group sort of thing?

And the idea of a Mega City sounds really cool and it can ell explain why the government has so much power, like after the war or whatever that destroyed much of the rest of the land, the government says that people must listen to them because they were the ones who protected them or something. And it would be interesting to see if we can come up with a history of the world.

Thank you so much. n_n Should we maybe even incorporate storylines about people trying to survive on the outside of the city? Like people who were forgotten, didn't have the right papers or were just flat out exiled? Also, that is a really great idea about making a history behind the city. We could start working out a timeline of some sort.

Oooh outsiders! That could be really cool! Like, maybe one of the reasons the resistance formed, to help the people who are outside of the city for whatever reason

Ah yes, a timeline would be cool! We can all work together to figure out why the world is as it is, when the city was built, why it was built (like as just a typical big city that expanded or built expressly for the purpose of housing survivors), and whatever else could be relevant!

We'll definitely as a big awesome group work on these details~

We've got a massive list of AU suggestions and ideas, so we've added this one to it and we keep following this thread with excitement ^_^

Arthur and I think we want to move the plots along in the AUs we have a bit first (hence the big jump in plotting in Eternal Darkness, for example) before we add a new AU...just because, if we do way too much at once, we'll be jumping all over the place to keep up and such (AUs can die out if neglected for too long. And we all have those days where we lack inspiration for something too XD).

But keep talking about this, and keep suggesting ideas and concepts, because it's one of the most fleshed out ideas we have so far and the one people seem the most excited about. So I do see this AU in our future (hopefully very soon). <3
