Personality: Generous and kind, Yekaterina looks to be as gentle as she is, but don't be fooled. This Ukrainian woman is as fierce as any cossack and won't stand silently by if she sees any bullying or discrimination. Still, it takes a lot to get her angry, and once she considers you a friend, she'll be as honest and as helpful she can be. Her faults would include crying easily, and the fact that she doesn't realize that she babies people and sometimes treat them like a charity case. She's just unable to leave people alone. Also her illegal love of booze. Background: When Yekaterina was little she used to be bullied by boys in her class, but whenever she would tell an adult they would tell her that it just means they probably like her. So like a good little girl, she let the boys bully her. After a while the bullying stopped, she managed to make friends with both boys and girls in her class. She concentrated on her studies, enjoying classes like music and science. She liked getting her hands dirty and helped her father out in his car repair shop. Her dreams were ambitious, she would doodle herself as a great singer, a better scientist all while working her father's garage. But when she returned from summer break for the 6th grade, everything changed...
She had breasts.
Shirts she used to wear everyday were no longer appropriate, girls would call her a slut and boys would touch her chest and run. Soon Katya found herself wearing baggy sweaters even on the hottest days. This went on until she was in the 7th grade. A once very ambitious girl, was turned quiet and while her grades didn't suffer, her self-confidence did. She began distracting herself with stories of romance and fantasy, imagining herself in a better world than her own. Beautiful things started to make her cry more easily than sad things. While most girls didn't care anymore about her unusually large breasts, she would still get sexual comments as she walked down the street from men over the age of 30. So she continued to cover herself up while hating her body type. She tried different diets hoping her breasts would go away. She didn't know it, but one of her diets was making her anemic and dehydrated so she fainted during gym class.
This was the changing point in her life. The doctor attending to Katya's need told her that what she was doing was wrong. She explained to the young girl that there was nothing wrong with her body, the fault lied with society and its over-sexualization of women. She invited Katya to a group session for women against misogyny, to show the girl that she wasn't the only victim and to teach her to love herself.
Yekaterina worked harder than she had ever done before. She didn't want to work in her father's grease shop no more, she didn't want to sing, and she didn't want to invent...she wanted to change the world. But first she needed to change herself.
After that somehow she ended up at the World Academy, which only helped her all the more with her weakened self-confidence. And since then, she wears t-shirts, she volunteered in Africa, she attended rallies for Women's Rights (got arrested twice) and has new-found ambitious on saving the world, one girl at a time. | |
