Character Name: Emil Steillson

Age: 17

Appearance: Stands at about 5 ft. 5 with a shaggy, silver, average length hair cut and a perpetual look of apathy on his face. Emil has a very bony, skeletal appearance due to years of malnourishment. Not only this but due to having no home or income, he is forced to shop lift regularly. He is often seen wearing clothes that are either one size to large or small. There is one consistent article of clothing that he wears though: a tattered, brown over coat that drags behind him on the ground.

Mutant Abilities: The very blood running through Emil’s veins, when exposed to air, becomes a highly corrosive, magma like material that can burn through just about anything. If let out for long enough, the blood can eventually harden into a rock-like callous. For example, after making incisions on his knuckles and allowing them to bleed out, Emil has created a pair of make shift “brass knuckles”. Emil rarely uses the blood as a projectile weapon, instead allowing his enemies to beat him down at close range and then to literally bleed on them, burning them heavily in the process.

Emil’s skin, flesh and bones are all immune to his lethal blood. Internally, however, his nerve endings are permanently inflamed leaving him in a constant state of pain (occasionally getting sick or passing out due to it). This works for and against him. On one hand, because he is always in pain he is more or less desensitized to any punishment that can be inflicted on him. On the other hand, his sense of touch is practically dead and he can barely feel vibrations let alone register someone’s presence. This leaves him as an easy target to sneak up on. The other key weakness is the fact that his power is based around using his own blood. He has to use his power sparingly with hopes that he’ll never bleed to death. Unfortunately, the less he uses it, the more the blood tears away at him from the inside. The power is something of a catch-22.

Where Do You Stand?: Allegiances mean nothing to Emil. He is simply devoted to scouring the country until he finds “big brother”.

Mutant/Brotherhood Code Name: None.

Sexuality: Presumed asexual, though his unsettling obsession with his brother is up to speculation.

Personality: Emil has a stone cold demeanour and a very harsh way of speaking. He frequently distances himself from people in general, finding he has nothing in common with them and that any attempt to relate or empathize with them would be futile. However, he is not entirely above accepting help from strangers if they can assist in completing his objectives. While he tends to be just plain baffled by most people, there is one individual he identifies with. His parents pet puffin who spent a majority of it's life in a tiny cage. In some cryptic way, he relates to it and is inseparable from the bird, seen carrying it around on his shoulder everywhere he goes.

Emil is extremely vengeful in nature and is prone to holding grudges. Years of isolation have lead him to believe that he’s been deprived and cheated out of a happy life. For this reason he has grown up with an irrational hatred of most people. Having grown up with no emotional out let though has left him unsure of how to express his feeling, so he chooses to just repress them and focus on his goals. This unhealthy approach has lead to a few rare outbursts of rage, sadness or both. One positive thing the institution gave him was a lengthy vocabulary of words he may or may not fully understand the meaning of, but uses frequently regardless.

Although naturally determined, Emil has a terrible lack of foresight, almost never considering the repercussions of his actions. Rarely does he ever plan, preferring to leap in and let fate decide what happens next. When in physical confrontations, he simply endures the punishment dished out, resigning himself to the thought that the powers will do the fighting for him.

Background: Emil was diagnosed with the mutant gene months before he was even born. So when he eventually was born he was signed away by his parents and entered into an institution that specialised in the “rehabilitation” of mutants. Emil spent his childhood in an empty white cell with nothing but an intercom to keep him company. The voice over the intercom served as a teacher for Emil about things like social etiquette and basic life skills, but Emil was to preoccupied with the constant pain on the inside he was developing with each passing day. The days went by and it had gotten so bad that Emil eventually began ignoring the voice’s lessons and would spend his days and nights pleading for someone to come and save him from his internal suffering.

One day, while punching away at the wall of his cell while screaming for the pain to stop, Emil scraped up his knuckles badly to produce a fair bit of blood. To his astonishment, the blood began to dissolving through the wall as if it were paper. The intercom kept pleading for him to stop but he persisted. Eventually, after maybe an hour or so of literal blood, sweat and tears, Emil’s blood had eaten all through way through a metre’s worth of concrete and created a hole larger then himself. He crawled through the hole only to be sedated by security almost immediately on the other side. Once he was returned to his cell, Emil realised the only way he could truly to escape was to go along with whatever the institution had to offer. He listened to their lessons even though he didn’t understand them, he never once spoke up even when he clearly had the right to and never used his powers once, even if it was slowly tearing away at him on the inside.

Countless years of isolation and emotional repression later, the institution found it suitable to return Emil back to his seemingly devoted parents. Sadly for him, his parents valued him more as a conversation piece then as a son. Emil would be left at home to watch the news of the on-going “mutant epidemic” while they’d attend social gatherings bragging that “my boy is cured”. He found the house not much different from his cell, although he preferred the puffin over the intercom any day. He enjoyed letting it out of it’s cage while his parents were away. While his folks were out one afternoon, Emil caught a news story that featured a public demonstration being performed by a violent looking group of mutants. He suddenly caught a glimpse of a blonde, young man with a slight resemblance to that of himself. Both curious and distraught, he searched the house for family photos when finally he came across a photo album. In their were his parents looking all happy and at ease with the same boy from the newscast. It suddenly all clicked. This hurt Emil deeply. How could his parents throw out one son for being a mutant yet keep another who was no more different than him?

That evening, Emil confronted his parents with the photo demanding an explanation. His mother tearfully explained the boy’s name was Lukas and that they had no idea. His father on the hand berated him for being ungrateful towards them taking him in and that they were doing what was best for him. He then slapped Emil across the face, drawing blood from his son’s lip that then ate through his hand in matter of seconds. In the ensuing chaos, Emil stuffed the photo into his pocket, grabbed the first coat he could find and then the cage with the puffin in it. After fleeing the house, he knew what he had to do next. He had to find this boy, his brother Lukas. He didn’t know what he’d do when he got to him, but he had some questions for him. Since that night, Emil has been drifting from town to town in search of him. Now that he’s in New York, he’s feeling just a bit more lucky.
