Personality: Lovino is someone who generally prefers to keep to himself; moody, rude and short-tempered towards most of the people he meets. He loves his (younger-by-a-few-minutes) twin brother dearly, but sees Feliciano as a bit too silly for his liking more often than not. In addition, he’s used to people favoring Feliciano’s personality and talents over his own personality and abilities quite often. Such favoritism is partly the reason for his attitude, thinking it’s better to not form that many relationships and push people away than to let people get close and get hurt. Despite this and the two of them sharing interests, he continues to try to prove that being different doesn’t necessarily mean inferior and not let the opinions of others sway his own views – even if he can’t help but often feel after being put down time and time again that sometimes like he really is the inferior twin.

Lovino hopes someday that he can open a restaurant of his own. He loves Italian food, but also any non-junky food in general, especially food with tomatoes. He’s a bit of a picky eater and has been teased about being gourmet.

In addition to this, he’s a big fan of soccer, even if he hasn’t joined the academy’s soccer club.


Background:

Despite being only slightly older than Feliciano, Lovino grew up quite differently than his twin. While he was allowed to play and interact with Feliciano in his younger years – developing a love for art and cooking – he didn’t get the same loving attention his parents showed the younger sibling. He was made to work hard, performing chores whenever needed and learning how to balance finances. Although Lovino at first didn’t mind the idea of helping out his parents and being a ‘good brother’ to Feliciano, especially liking being able to garden, he soon grew resentful of the way he never received the same sort of praise as his sibling for a job well done. He began to put less effort into his work, but instead of wondering what they could do to inspire him to be better, his parents labeled him as stubborn, lazy and clumsy – becoming pushy and harsh when he didn’t meet expectations.

Lovino lashed out often at his brother as well, not understanding why Feliciano got to enjoy a carefree life when he was made to work hard. Being a good brother didn’t seem like a good enough reason anymore. Things were made even worse when his parents obtained a patron in Austria to support Feliciano’s talents, and although Lovino couldn’t help but love his brother he also became all the more jealous. During the time his brother was away, for a while he tried to show off to his parents how he could cook and paint just as well (his teachers in school at the very least recognizing his art as something he might want to look into focusing on in life), but soon saw such efforts as fruitless and decided he was better off doing such activities solely for his own gain.

When his younger brother returned and tried to showcase what he was doing, Lovino thought that Feliciano more did so out of pity than truely being proud of his older brother's work. In addition, he didn’t like seeing his artwork next to his brothers as it only meant that the two of them would be compared, with his brother normally being the one who was seen with more skill. However, there was a part of him that appreciated Feliciano trying to stand up for him when even his parents wouldn’t, and that part of him was disappointed when his brother gave up on those efforts.

It came as a surprise to Lovino when he received a letter of patronage to World Academy like his brother, but given how Feliciano had gotten the invitation first – and by a parton that actually gave their name – the scholarship seemed to be out of pity more than anything. Despite this, he accepted the offer to go to the academy, seeing this as an opportunity to break away from life with his parents and do what he truly wanted to do, even if his major and interests ended up being the same as his brother’s. Because of the two of them being family and not wanting to feel alone, Lovino roomed with his brother, though wasn’t surprised when Feliciano turned into more of a social butterfly than he was, with his brother’s art quickly gaining attention – much more so than Lovino’s, even if he received good marks for it.
